Wind Rose - "Trollslayer" - review

Wind Rose - Trollslayer

One of new entries on week 121 of Stef Metal Chart was Wind Rose's "". It was just a new single from upcoming new album and while I was listening to it I was expecting just another symphonic/power metal album as many released this year. "Trollslayer", the album I'm writing about, was released on October 4th 2024 and I had some doubts putting italians new album into my player. And the facts that Wind Rose are playing together for 15 years now and they released five studio albums during this time gave me some hope for good album.

Album starts with twominutes soft and gentle instrumental "Of Ice and Blood", and right after it comes very strong and fast giant kick off "Dance of the Axes". So we get the best track right at the beginning but I asure you that later isn't much weaker. Next "The Great Feast Underground" is also fast but having folk metal riffs and flute or choral chants for change. After that there are two slower and little weaker songs, including mentioned before "To Be a Dwarf". However none of them decrease total note of the album. They just give some rest before more speeded tracks that are yet to come, like title track "Trollslayer" or "Legacy of the Forge" with some more rhythmic riffs. The album ends with seven minutes long "No More Sorrow", still fast but looking little lighter, leaving listener with a delighted mood.
For me very important is fact that there are no classic guitar solos on the album, what decrease my note a little, but still no doubt this is one of the best albums of this year.
